A great and unique read. I honestly haven't read one like it before. As much as Lucious wants to deny and fight it, he has feelings for Helena. I did see the twist that saved them coming, as I had wondered if she was truly dead all along. The other twist in the epilogue is intriguing. Cant't wait to read more.
This book did not grip me and it took me a long time to work out why. But first the good points. It is not your usual vampire love story (thank goodness); this one actually has a decent storyline and isn’t your typical ‘the vampire is really a selfless hero and the heroine saves him from damnation’ rubbish. There is a lot of mystery to this book and only some of the questions are answered, leaving most readers wanting to read more. It is a good length and well- paced. It starts off with a small glossary, which is great. Being at the start, it makes you more likely to read it than if it was as the end, which means that you understand the terms when you come across them instead of having to keep pausing in your reading to flick through to the glossary at the end. The prologue sets the tone of the book well.
The only problem I found with this book is that I don’t like any of the characters. I don’t hate any either. I am not saying they are not well-written, because they are. Each one is unique and well-rounded with individual personalities. I just don’t like any of them enough to care about what happens to them. This is just a personal opinion and other readers should make up their own minds on this matter. Overall I am glad I read the book.
Russian Roulette #1 - Surprised at how good this vampire story is to read. A well written, suspense filled novel by a new author to me. I enjoyed the engaging story and the believable characters; although in the beginning, I didn't get the action/lack of action of the guardian angel, which was explained later in the story. The dialog is realistic, just as if in a regular story; and the reader is whisked along at a steady pace.

This is one of the better vampire stories I've read in a while. Unfortunately, although not a cliffhanger, the book ends in suspense. Next book, please.

Cherished #4.5 - I wish I had read the books after Russian Roulette and before Cherished; I missed so much. This is another well written, suspense filled story with believable characters and realistic dialog. Although I missed the other books, this story made sense and I didn't stop reading until I finished the novella. Like Russian Roulette, there's no cliffhanger, but there's more to the story.
Russian Rolette was a great read! I particularly enjoyed that the characters were more real and had depth to them. The story itself moved at a smooth but quick pace. There is plenty of mystery, sexual tension and interesting relational aspects to the story. Freighter takes us on an exciting ride through the paranormal in this exciting urban fantasy. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
I love it when a writer creates a story that isn't perfectly wrapped. The action, pain, mystery, and fascinating characters is what makes the reader delve into and submerge into a book. This one is full of snafus. Great Read.
An uncanny but thrilling take on vampires with some excellently unexpected paranormal elements woven into the story, Helena Hawthorne was a fantastic strong heroine and the book was a great example of genre blending and quite the adventure. I am eagerly awaiting the sequel!
May Freighter has done an excellent job of world building in this urban fantasy. Readers follow the young Helena Hawthorn, who is anything but normal. She has a Guardian Angel, Michael, who looks after her but cannot intervene in her life. When he takes her to the Angel Realm to find answers about her father, life as she knows it changes forever. A single touch draws her into the supernatural world and binds her soul to the mysterious and handsome vampire Lucious. Caught in a conflict between powerful forces, Helena becomes a pawn in their game.
The characters are well developed and relatable. Russian Roulette is filled with mystery, suspense, and sexual tension. It will keep you turning pages, and on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. The twist at the end was unexpected and surprising.
This book is the first in the series and will leave you wanting more.
