As usual for Ms. Sinclair, the story telling is flawless, the characters vibrant and interesting, and the sex steamy. However, it is missing the BDSM themes she's known for was a bit of a disappointment. It did not take away from the romance or the story telling at all, though. I enjoyed the book from start to finish.Tags : Not a Hero (Sons of the Survivalist Book 1) - Kindle edition by Cherise Sinclair. Not a Hero Sons of the Survivalist Book 1 edition by Cherise Sinclair Romance eBooks Reviews
I love so much about this book. First of all, the fact that a Vietnam veteran with PTSD rescued four boys from an abusive foster home and brought them to his survivalist cabin off grid in Alaska...teaching them survivor skills, raising them with love (tough not sentimental) and instilling in them a sense of self worth — is wonderful and amazing. They have been grieving for him since “Mako’s” death, but three of them are trying to honor the request the old sergeant left for them...to rescue the town of Rescue. The town is full of interesting people, most kind, some off grid, and a group of religious zealots. Bull and Caz convince Gabe he is needed to enforce the law. Audrey is on the run from a killer in Chicago. She is very, very smart, and it was great reading how she ended up in Rescue. I am looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
Another awesome story from one of my favorites. We all have a handful of writers that never disappoint us. Cherise Sinclair is one of mine. Original ideas, clear but complex plots, well researched details, engaging and beloved characters. Ms. Sinclair brings every type of alpha to the table. Loved this book. Only hated when it was over.
Cherise Sinclair did it again with this fantastic story set in Alaska. However, she did it differently this time by creating a story that has you sitting on the edge of your seat and cheering for Gabe and Audrey. No BDSM elements which really is a switch (see what I did there) BUT the sex scenes and overall heat is still present which makes this a must read. Great storyline and character development and even the appearance of a Shadowland friend. Buy it, settle into your favorite chair, have snacks and beverages close at hand and plan to read this to completion in one sitting. Yes it is that good.
A- This is the beginning of a new series and It’s excellent. The four men are foster children rescued/kidnapped from a bad foster home by a retired sargent and raised off the grid in Alaska. Mako is dead now but left them a town to help as their legacy. This book is about Gabe the oldest who reluctantly takes on the job as chief of police. He meets Audrey, who is hiding from an assassin and is immediately intrigued. The town is against him at the beginning but gradually pulls together to stand behind him and his brothers. Its about people overcoming prejudices and helping each other. The romance is great too. There’s even a group of zealots with their own compound stirring things up to provide future problems.
3.5 Stars
From the pre-release talk, I knew this wasn't going to be standard Sinclair fare and I was more than good with that. I like to see authors follow their artistic heart and just go where they have to go.
In 'Not a Hero' I quite enjoyed the Alaskan setting, there were some fun and interesting secondary characters, and I loved the set-up for both Gabe and Audrey/Julie. In the beginning these two characters had "teeth" but as their two stories began to merge into a relationship I personally felt it tamed-down, became predictable and maybe even a bit formulaic. Gabe held on to his appeal for the most part but in the end, Audrey lost a degree of the richness with which she began. I'm also not sure why Z appeared as he did, like a spectre in the mists, and then was gone. As presented, that event was non-contributory. And Z is anything but non-contributory.
Overall, I liked the story, and as I say, I found the setting refreshing. There certainly are some pending stories possible for the brothers and a bevy of continuing secondary characters to enrich the series.
I have read and LOVED all of Cherise's other books so may be a bit biased, but she has definitely delivered again.
What a great first installment of what I expect will be an awesome series. The way she set up the characters and their backstories was perfect. Just enough detail to get you hooked but not so much you want to skim over a single word.
There was enough interaction with the townfolk to make me want more but not distract from the interaction between the main characters. Perfect setup and context for future books. I think there is supposed to be 4 based on the brothers but already there are others I can't wait to know more about.
Ms Sinclair, you stories are a reader's delight!
I am author loyal so when Cherise Sinclair announced she was writing a book outside of “her normal” I was not very excited. Only because I have noticed that when authors stray from their genre the books are usually lacking. NOT THIS ONE. Usually there is always a bdsm element in her stories, although you will not find any of that in this book, Gabe one of the main character is definitely an alpha male (in a good way).
I would not call this book a thriller but it does have some really exciting heart pounding action moments. The flow of the story line was exquisite and the character building was solid. There was even a little bit of humor and lightheartedness which made the book even better.
This story did not end with a cliffhanger but there is enough intrigue with this religious group that you know will be addressed in the coming books in this series. If you have not purchased this book I promise it is worth every penny you will pay.
Thank you Ms. Sinclair for the entertainment and thank you for being brave enough to write outside of your comfort zone. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series and will never doubt your ability to not always write erotica. I love all your books but I truly believe this your best work.
